The craft space in my house is constantly changing with the needs of our family -- I'm sure many of you know (experience) what I'm saying.
So I thought I'd update you on my storage solutions.
Currently, I do have a permanent space that I share with the kiddos. For them, we have a book shelf, rocking chair, and crib (currently not in use) on one half of the room and my desk and shelves on the other.
We use
a shelf to divide the space. A "baby gate" is on my wish list to further divide the room but I can't find exactly what I'd want...
I love using the top of the
shelf as extra work space. I have my paper trimmer and two
Color Caddies (one for current ink colors and one for retired).
On the wall between the two main shelves, I have all my clear-mount stamp sets on a
Lerberg Wall Shelf from IKEA. I "weed" through them once a year and sell sets that no longer appeal to me or just don't get use.
I make room for new sets!!
I have fewer and fewer wood-mount sets through this weeding process so they are stored in one basket in a cubby. I will likely transition many of them to the
NEW wood-mount cases coming May 31!! So excited about
these.
The other thing I just did recently is arrange all my solid card stock in color order (rather than in "families" or "collections").
I'm
very excited about this change. So all the reds are together -- current and retired -- all the yellows, blues, neutrals, etc. I store them in
desktop hanging files.
I used the
suggestions from other crafters at SCS for the order. I also put a pink dot (with a highlighter) in front of the names of colors that are retired. So I know once my stash is depleted, it's gone for good.
Another storage tip is to
keep like items together. My dies, framelits, etc. are stored directly above my Big Shot.
Ribbon and washi tape (while my stash is still manageable) are stored upright. My hubby used a wood block as the base (from a stamp that I converted to cling-mount); he drilled a starter hole and glued a dowel rod to the base. I have a few other empty ones waiting to be filled.
Note: I don't use ribbon that often so it's one embellishment that I am not tempted to hoard. I prefer
Baker's Twine.
My punches are stored on
Bygel Rails from IKEA. I can see the images and quickly grab what I need. Smaller items (buttons, brads, string, etc.) are stored in the hanging baskets -- within reach as well!
So sorry -- you're not going to see my desk. It's a MESS! :)
We're in the final days of the 2012-13 Annual Catalog and many of the current stamps or accessories will retire.
I'm sorting through my piles and getting ready for the
new catalog (love it!). I give all my customers a catalog.
Email me if you would like a catalog!
#1 TIP: Do what works for you!
Determine what products and supplies you use MOST and keep them close at hand. Other items can be stored farther from your work station. Baskets, shelves, cases -- find what fits your style and space best!
No two crafters need / want the exact same solution.
